…and then it hit me.

I run near the East River, when it’s not snowing outside.

There’s a great boardwalk-type area, made of brick, that I catch at 14th Street and run down til Houston Street, where there’s a park with a track. Hood pulled down tight, I jog some laps, then I run back home.

I like this very much in Spring, because the experience gets me near the water again, and the water isn’t frozen. Life. Rebirth. There’s also a fantastic view of the Empire State Building right above my line of sight as I’m running uptown to the right of the cars whizzing by on the FDR Drive. It’s very New York, but also on that lovely, evanescent boundary between urbanity and the natural. It’s so thought-provoking, so poetic, so…
