Oh, What a World!
Part of me would not be at all confused or surprised if Tim Burton’s next live-action feature is a weirder (not to say creepier) update of The Wizard of Oz, with Johnny Depp as Dorothy.
Build on your Ed Wood leanings, John, and just go for it. You’d nail it.
Helena Bonham Carter could be, say, the Wicked Witch of the West, because they sorta resemble each other and she’s in all of Burton’s movies anyway ’cause they’re going steady.
Cowardly Lion? Maybe Danny Devito. And how about this inspired suggestion? Steve Buscemi and Christopher Walken in the SAME movie — as the Scarecrow and the Tin Man, respectively. One of these two actors is in every movie anyway, so why let them team up for a change, for a split second not having to worry about the contest they apparently have to see who’ll amass more film roles in his career.
As long as a WoO update doesn’t have a tacky and one-dimensional backstory as to why the main character is why she is, I’m sure it’ll go smashingly.
