Tall

Apparently, Chicago is a few years away from having (another) really, really, very tall building:

I noticed it’ll be even taller than the Freedom Tower of New York City, currently under construction.

Are you thinking what I’m thinking? That if the Freedom Tower is a representation of Freedom itself, of rising Phoenix-like from hallowed ashes to soar to even greater unforeseen heights, and all buildings have these metaphorical connotations, that this building – purely residential – speaks to the truth that Chicagoans think a bunch of condos are more important than Freedom? Oh, what to make of the symbolism here?!

The answer is: not too much. It’s a building, a very tall building, and as often as there’s everything in a name, this time it’s just another phallic symbol penetrating the atmosphere.

Incidentally, is there such competition among hole-drillers? Is the cliche’ here true, that all these skyscrapers are just monuments to masculine inferiority/feminine penis envy? I’ve seen no headlines calling attention to the “Deepest cave ever dug!”, followed two years later by an even more passionate headline celebrating an even deeper hole.

It’s got something to do with gravity, right? Or God?
