What is it about traveling that’s so exhausting? Is it the stress of sitting in one spot for two or four or eight hours (plane, train, automobile)? ‘Cause I’m not that exhausted after sleeping. Does the restlessness wear on you so much? The lack of fresh air? The tediousness of the journey? Or is it solely in the numbers, that even if we haven’t moved much (relative to our vehicle) in fact our bodies have moved hundreds of miles over a short amount of time, and that’s tiring without our knowing it? And that’s not even taking driving into account, where you have to pay decent attention for a long time, testing the dwindling human attention span.
