"The Times They Are a-Becoming Quite Different"
Two bitch notes to start:
1. The little ad on the top of this page, the one Xanga gives me because I won’t give them money? My estimation of human capability dwindles when this box is filled with crawling cockroaches. If you haven’t seen it, keep an eye out. Gross.
2. There’s a song from Kill Bill sung by the 5-6-7-8’s. If you know what I’m talking about, merely commiserate but do NOT try and think of it — it’ll only get stuck in your head and I don’t want to be responsible for that. I thought I was done with it in ‘05 but it’s now being played in TWO different commercials. I think this heinous little melody was fabricated by the same lowlifes that put cockroaches on my page. My bespectacled grasshopper friend is a CARTOON and I want him there, so it’s okay for that kind of bug. But bugs I don’t ask for — no. This is a blog, it is not a New York City apartment.
Two more notes on “Gender Studies”:
1. About the “real world” depicted in the Twilight Zone - that is, the way the world is before the protagonist goes crazy. If this is an accurate representation of the way life actually was in the 1950’s and 1960’s, then I missed the freakin’ boat, man. All the men had cushy jobs with little or no talent, ingenuity or sincerity required, and they spoke with slight British accents. Check out this line from “A Penny for your Thoughts”; this line’s about a group of females working in an office, spoken by a male businesspr*ck:
“I haven’t seen such an aggregation of beasts since the last time I went to the circus.”
And this, on television. With that low a standard, life would be guilt-free. But, wow.
2. I also recently observed and informed my roommate of a more contemporary truth:
“You know, pornography is somewhat misogynistic.”
I wasn’t born this perceptive. I try.
