On the subway back from Midtown yesterday, I noticed that the gentleman sitting next to me was reading a newspaper. I believe it was the New York Amsterdam News, or something of the like.
I’d glanced over and seen an ad for Queen Latifah’s new flick, Beauty Shop. The ad took up the bottom half the page. At the top of this gray box was a phrase from a rave review, proclaiming the film to be “Positively hilarious.” I thought to myself, “Well, even if I don’t see it, I guess I’m glad that someone out there enjoyed it. Very good. Good for everyone.”
Then I looked up at the top half of that same page, and saw a critic’s review of the same movie. The review had the headline: “Queen Latifah’s New Movie Doesn’t Make the Cut.”
I hope the person or persons responsible for this juxtaposition have been sacked.
As someone who cannot make any personal judgements about anything I rely on the media solely for the truth in all things. How am I supposed to let them make up my mind for me if they keep doing this?!?!?!
